August 2016
Dr. Kafeel Khan worked as an Assistant Professor in SIIMS, Gangtok (Sikkim) before getting permanent commission on 08.08.2016 as a lecturer in BRD Medical College.
August 2017
Unfortunately the BRD oxygen tragedy happened on 10th August 2017, which killed many children. The reason for this tragedy was the stoppage of supply of liquid oxygen due to non-payment of dues to the vendor. The government in order to hide its failure and divert public attention made Dr. Kafeel Khan a scapegoat and imprisoned him for nine months. This was very untoward, as it was Dr. Kafeel Khan who in spite of not being the ward incharge came forward to help and left no stone unturned in saving the lives of kids on that day. Later, Hon'ble Allahabad High court categorically stated that there is no evidence of medical negligence against him.
September 2019
In September 2019 a Departmental inquiry done by Principal Secretary also stated that there was shortage of liquid oxygen for 54 hours in BRD Medical College on 10th, 11th, 12th of August 2017 and Dr. Kafeel Khan indeed arranged jumbo oxygen cylinders to save dying kids and absolved him on charges of medical negligence and corruption and accepted that I was the junior-most consultant who was not involved with supply, procurement, maintenance, order, payment of Liquid oxygen.
Jan 2020
He was again arrested in Jan 2020 and slapped with National Security act (NSA ) for his alleged inflammatory speech at Aligarh Muslim University and was behind the bar for 7 months.
September 2020
On 1st September His NSA and all 3 extensions quashed by Hon'ble High Court Uttar-Pradesh, India which called the whole process illegal. The Hon'ble Chief justice observed: "Dr.Kafeel Khan's speech at AMU, Aligarh, UP, India does not disclose any effort to promote hatred or violence. The address gives a call for national integrity and unity among the citizens"

The Gorakhpur Hospital Tragedy - A Doctor’s Memoir of a Deadly Medical Crisis

A HARROWING MEDICAL CRISIS.
A DOCTOR IN THE EYE OF THE STORM.
HIS ACCOUNT OF WHAT REALLY HAPPENED.
On the evening of 10 August 2017, liquid oxygen ran out at the state-run Baba Raghav Das Medical College’s Nehru Hospital in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
Reportedly, over the next two days, more than eighty patients – sixty-three children and eighteen adults – lost their lives. In the intervening hours, Dr Kafeel Khan, the junior-most lecturer at the college’s paediatrics department, went to extraordinary lengths to secure oxygen cylinders, perform emergency treatment and rally the staff in order to prevent as many deaths as possible.
As the news of the tragedy grabbed national attention, Khan was called a hero for working ceaselessly to control the crisis and drawing attention to a healthcare system in dire need of repair. But a few days later, he found himself suspended and that an FIR had been filed against nine individuals, including him, for corruption and medical negligence, among other grave charges. Soon after he was summarily carted off to jail.
The Gorakhpur Hospital Tragedy is Kafeel Khan’s first-hand chronicle of the events of that fateful night in August 2017 and the gut-wrenching turmoil that followed – a suspension without end, an eight-month-long incarceration and a relentless fight for justice in the face of extreme apathy and persecution.
